Letter from Alan Taylor, minister of the Mountainside Church of Christ concerning their work in Haiti and the recent earthquake. Thanks for your inquiry. We supply all of the food for an orphanage in Ranquitte, Haiti, and we help with support for one in Cap Hatien. Cap Hatien is in the north; Ranquitte is in the east. Neither orphanage was damaged by the quake; however, with the shortage of food, fuel, and medicine which must necessarily accompany such a disaster, they are anticipating that, at least in the short term, prices will skyrocket. We will be taking a contribution for Haiti. We will use some of it to insure that the 57 children at Ranquitte get food. We will send the rest of it to the Haitian Christian Foundation. This foundation is active mostly in the north, but they do have people on the ground who can get help to the south as needed. We chose HCF because one of our deacons, John Painter, is on the board of HCF. We trust John and the work the foundation does. So, if you would like to participate with us, we would be glad to receive anything you can send. Just make sure that your people know that our missions are located mostly in the north. We will be taking care of children and families who are impacted indirectly, not directly, by the earthquake. If you want to be involved more directly in the south, go to the Christian Chronicle web site. They have updated stories about the devastation and a list of at least four Christian agencies who will be working in the south. Have a great day...
